In her new book, Treat, author Stephanie Banyas takes those classic treats to an updated level. Along with making the marshmallows, adding creative ingredients, loading the tops, and cutting into designer shapes, Treat also shares tips on ensuring a successful outcome. Yum!

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Not a huge fan myself of the classic marshmallow treats, my family absolutely loves them! As a result, this tasty little book was perfect for us! Full of delectable recipes accompanied by scrumptious pictures, Treat is definitely a book that will have the pages sticky with use. Perfect as a gift or passed along between friends, I will probably purchase several copies to share with each batch of the yummy treats. Such an easy treat made even more interesting yet still simple. Strawberry Lemonade Treats, Peanut Butter Cup Treats, Chocolate Espresso Treats…I think this non-fan may even be tempted! (I wonder if Maraschino Cherry Treats would work?) So clever!!

Treat Yourself

Steinhauer, Jennifer. Treat Yourself: 70 Classic Snacks. USA: Clarkson Potter/ Publishers. 2014.

SUMMARY:
treatsCandy-Dots, Cheez-Its, Honey Buns, Oatmeal Creme Pies…70 of the most loved treats compiled in one fun recipe book! Loaded with extra tips, preparation time, personal memories, iconic treat information and scrumptious pictures, Treat Yourself is a trip down memory lane complete with delectable sweet treats!!

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
What a brilliant book! Full of childhood memories which can now be shared with a new generation, Treat Yourself shares the author’s memories of each classic delight as well as a homemade recipe for recreating the delicacy. Though not store-bought nor commercial made, the resulting feast is sure to bring back huge smiles, fond reminders of the “good-old-days”, stories to share, lots of reminiscing and of course, a goodie to devour! Along with the recipes, Jennifer Steinhauer also comments on each item which is an enjoyable addition. Rest assured…the more contemporary homemade treats will be close enough to the original with all the same characteristics (albeit a bit more healthy) but it is the experience which is definitely worth the read and the time spent baking. Perfect as a gift, this cookbook and recipes would also be appreciated at a birthday party, summer picnic, get-together, or family reunion. Loads of pleasure awaits!!
