A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Already a reader of several books by this author, this was one I hadn’t yet read. Upon first glance, it struck me as a beautifully packaged devotional book, complete with a place-marking ribbon. The covers made of imitation leather and the larger font were a welcome sight. As I started to read, the bite-sized daily inspirations were encouraging and held my heart through-out the day. Full of God’s love and grace, the brief readings had a longer and larger impact which would be welcomed by most anyone. Perfect as a gift, in a church library, or for personal use, while I may gift a copy to those I know, this copy will remain on my own shelf for the next year as my own daily devotional.

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe

Lucado, Max. With Lee, Candace and Newman, Eric. Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe: A Heavenly Novel. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson. 2015.

SUMMARY:
cafeCommitted to remodeling and redesigning the Higher Grounds Cafe, Chelsea Chambers doesn’t have the time nor energy when her NFL superstar husband decides to leave. Taking care of two children, reopening the Cafe, struggling with bills, and staying out of the public spotlight all require some divine intervention. Through a series of puzzling events, cupcakes, cappuccinos and strong coffee may actually be connected in some divine way…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Being a fan of Max Lucado’s non-fiction writing, I was anxious to try his fiction novel as well. Filled with compassion, humor, faith and a bit of heavenly help, I finished this shorter story quickly although the message has me continuing to speculate. (Perhaps a God Blog would be something He should consider…LOL.) Sweet yet strong, I enjoyed this piece of fiction. This book might be good for Book Club or Bible Study, especially with the discussion questions included at the end. If you could ask God one question…what would it be?
