Long Way Gone

Martin, Charles. Long Way Gone. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson. 2016.

Musician and songwriter Cooper O’ Connor heads to Nashville at the age of eighteen counting on his musical ability. When tragedy strikes, Cooper returns home to Colorado to sort things out with his father, whom he left years ago. Realizing he must face his past, find his faith and hope for grace, Long Way Gone tells the Prodigal Son story in an emotional, unconventional manner. With strong characters, depth of heart and piercing emotions, author Charles Martin weaves a story of wisdom, mercy and unconditional love…

With a writing style that draws emotions to the surface and wreaks havoc on the heart, Charles Martin is skilled beyond words. With a deepness that continues throughout the story, it doesn’t let go. Not having read a novel from this author before Long Way Gone, I really had no idea what to expect, although, once in the story, I soon found myself profoundly absorbed. Liking his style, I absolutely plan on reading more of his works while hoping for a new novel. Fair warning…have the tissue ready.
