Prayers Of My Heart

Featured

Taylor-Williams, Debbie. Prayers Of My Heart: A Personal Prayer Journal. Eugene, OR: Harvest House Publishers. 2018.

SUMMARY:
Organized like a personal calendar and journal, set-up in monthly and weekly pages, Prayers Of My Heart has plenty of room for planning and recording prayer reminders. Unnumbered squares make it easy and efficient to add dates while using the monthly and weekly schedules. Simply fill-in the boxes with prayer requests and record thoughts, meditations, and notes in the lined journal pages at the back of the book. With instructions on using the system, sample calendars, an abundance of pages and a pleasing teal-blue color throughout, this compact book makes keeping prayers of the heart better organized.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
In a very organized book begging to be used, I found this workable and useful journal both valuable and productive. Upon first glance at the plentiful open pages, I was a bit unsure how to make the most of this prayer journal; however, after reading the directions, it clearly made sense. Perhaps taking a bit to create a journaling habit, I feel with a few tweaks, this book could also become a calendar as well as the prayer journal. Certainly a prayer scheduler I will continue using to help meet my goals.

SUMMARY:
Encouraging readers to be more intentional in their connections with God, author Scarlet Hiltibidal presents a personal journal filled with scripture, Bible verses, writing prompts and pages of lined paper for journaling thoughts, ideas, prayers, and dreams. Each two-page layout is broken into weekly topics under a broader subject. Encased in a hard cover book, this prayer project includes a presentation page, soft illustrations, reflection stories and a page marking ribbon.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Designed for the busy person who still yearns to spend time with God, The Weekly Prayer Project allows for the project to begin at any time, topics to be rearranged, and thoughtful, heartfelt writing to take place. Simple yet providing a deeper connection if desired, this book truly meets the reader where they are in faith. Based on prayers, each corresponding scripture verse and writing idea encourages personal consideration. Though not necessarily a devotional, this book touches more on prayers which could be easily incorporated into devotion time. Perfect as a gift, ministry or even a Bible study, this is a project I intend to complete.

Extraordinary Ordinary Moments

Hurley, Jorey. Extraordinary Ordinary Moments: A Journal. USA: Clarkson Potter/ Publishers. 2016.

extraordinaryordinarymoments

SUMMARY:
A journal for appreciating the beautiful, the quirky, the surprising, and the overlooked, Extraordinary Ordinary Moments is full of brief writing prompts for noticing just such moments. With delicately and lightly colored drawings quietly enhancing the pages, each sheet of this thick book causes thinking, looking, considering, deciding and sharing things, situations, occurrences and events often taken for granted, neglected or considered mundane. Prompts (such as comfort food, art you love, something that cost too much but was so worth it, a victory and something that hurts in a good way -hint: picture of a jalapeño pepper included), occupy each page yet leave plenty of room to write, doodle, draw and remember…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
In this often overly busy world, too often the little things are often overlooked, forgotten or ignored. Taking the time to focus on those items can bring focus, blessings and peace while reminiscing and enjoying. Able to skip around, work through in order, or put away and revisit, author, graphic designer and illustrator, Jorey Hurley, does an excellent job with this journal. Even the raised orange peel on the cover is inviting! Definitely a book I will use as well as purchase and gift to others.

Anyone who relishes in writing, doodling, poetry, lists, or drawing will truly appreciate the space to record such personal information. Similar to a journal or diary, this one is filled with an abundance of faith too. According to the author, there will be more related volumes released for moms, wives and boys in the near future (please hurry!). I truly found delightful the introduction which stated there is no right or wrong way to complete this book…what an invitation to be candid and creative!
