Colwell, Cheryl. Harris, Brittany. Courageous Jack: Noble Character- Building Series- Volume 1. Inspired Fiction Books. 2015.

courageousjack

SUMMARY:
Young Jack loses his blue ball and wonders where it may have gone…in the bird’s nest? Perhaps into the cave? Or, caught in the waves? Maybe surrounded by crocodiles? None-the-less, Jack must muster up the necessary courage to find it. With rhyming verses and delightfully illustrated coordinating pictures, Courageous Jack gently teaches the character building lesson of courage, in a reader-friendly manner. Written and illustrated by a mother-daughter team, this first book in the series is dedicated to Jack, son and grandson of the authors.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Already quite the fan of author Cheryl Colwell, I was excited to read this new preschool/ elementary age book from the author team. With rhyming words making it easy for beginner readers, though some of the words were a bit of a stretch, it was still successful, especially concerning the intended message. As part of a new series connected to character building, this may prove to be only the beginning of a truly inspirational collection. Perfect for Sunday school, a church library, a kindergarten bookshelf, beginning readers or part of a preschooler gift, I look forward to the next installment.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Wow…from the first chapter, I was entranced by the suspenseful action which only heightened throughout the story, literally almost to the last page. As a continuation in The Secrets of Montebellis series, it was outstanding! Well-written, I thoroughly enjoyed Adriana’s Secrets, including the faith-filled messages, the strong characters, the engaging storyline, the subject matters and the inclusion of many secondary plots all joining in a powerful conclusion. Seriously, I truly hope the author, Cheryl Colwell, is working on the next Montebellis installment as she completely lives up to her writing-style tagline of “stunning suspense”. (The cover was actually quite perfect also after reading the book!)

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
From the opening scene, this novel held my attention while actually coaxing me into it even more intently as the story continued. Filled with fact intermingling perfectly with fiction, the line between was hard to draw. Having read and enjoyed this author’s first book, The Secrets of the Montebellis, I was excited to be offered the chance to read and review yet another book by her. Adventure, suspense, danger, faith and secrets all blend effortlessly into a riveting novel which still has me considering possible events. Well-written; very enjoyed!

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
I am not sure what exactly I was expecting from this novel but it delivered. The storyline kept moving yet not in a straight line…the twists and turns kept coming…even the cover of the book had me guessing and wondering. Well written and very well mapped out, this book paid close attention to detail with hints and clues scattered throughout. On a side note, I really liked the bit larger size of the book, the sturdier pages and whiter paper. Cheryl Colwell is an author I would read again, especially should she continue to write suspense novels.
