busybusy

SUMMARY:
No matter the species, everyone is busy. Cat is busy tangling the yarn, Mouse is busy nibbling seeds, Mole is busy digging, Pig is busy in the mud, and Mommy is busy with work…BUT she always has time for a cuddle. With lots of adorable pictures, relatable animals, common activities, and love to share, Busy, Busy! is full of bright colors and reassuring cuddles. Constructed as a board book perfect for little hands, Eileen Spinelli and Elina Ellis make snuggle time even more enjoyable…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Fun, colorful, and charming, Busy, Busy! is so cute and cuddly. Offering encouragement even during the necessary busy times, small children are sure to love this thick book. Perfect in a child’s library, for the travel bag or in church, it would be delightful given as shower gift while paired with a stuffed animal, an animal outfit and rattle.  I especially liked the learning associated with each animal’s natural behavior as well as the sweet included message. Darling!

Breaking Busy

Worthington, Alli. Breaking Busy: How To Find Peace And Purpose In A World Of Crazy. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing. 2016.

breakingbusy

SUMMARY:
Almost a badge of honor for women to wear, being crazy busy is the norm for many. Between scheduled activities, careers, children, home-life, volunteering and responsibilities, life just seems to become unmanageable and out of control. With humor, compassion, strength, humbleness and faith, author (and speaker, mom, wife, business woman and blogger) Alli Worthington shares her personal stories, weaknesses, triumphs, thoughts and ideas on breaking busy from life. Complete with self-reflection questions for adapting change as necessary, Breaking Busy addresses choices, worry, value, options, expectations and purpose in an empathetic and encouraging way…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Seriously, who is not crazy busy these days at any age, any stage of life and in any situation…often without the word “no” even in our vocabulary!  Loving the wit, honesty and style in which the book was written, I just knew I was going to be able to relate, enjoy and appreciate Breaking Busy. With sound Biblical advice, compassionate coaching and knee-slapping humor, several times (unfortunately) I found myself nodding in agreement. Honestly one of the best books I have read on the subject of busyness, this is one book I read entirely through and plan to reread as needed. Take the “me” moment and learn how to have more with less. Excellent!

Rhythms of Grace

Weems, Kerri V. Rhythms of Grace: Discovering God’s Tempo for Your Life. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan. 2014.

SUMMARY:
rhythmsBusy, busy, busy. Seems everyone is busy these days with daily schedules getting out-of-control, priorities being lost, rest and relaxation falling by the sidelines and relationships becoming difficult. Though busy can be productive, it can also disturb our inner peace and focus, primarily our focus on God and His plan for us. Rhythms of Grace reminds us what is truly important in life…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Love the cover, love the premise! Set to the idea of rhythm, I could really appreciate the theme that ran throughout the book (as a musical family). Fatigue, frustration, busyness, and craziness all are part of daily lives yet the impact can be detrimental. In her book, Kerri Weems shares her personal stories, related thoughts, scheduling ideas, Biblical perspectives, focal reminders and deserved relaxation, all pointing towards redefining a relationship with God as the primary target. Almost viewed as a healthy lifestyle book, Rhythms of Grace reads like a friend. After-all, isn’t everyone busy these days with a strong need for rest and a spotlight on God?
