With Every Breath

Camden, Elizabeth. With Every Breath. Bloomington, MN: Bethany House Publishers. 2014.

SUMMARY:
breathNever having shown an interest in her before, Kate Livingston is hesitant when Dr. Trevor McDonough approaches her to help find a cure for tuberculosis. A past history, opposite personalities and brilliant minds cannot work together…or can they? Secrets, fear, surprise, history, medicine, and strength must all cooperate together first…

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Beautifully written about a difficult illness, Elizabeth Camden delivers a strong novel set in the 1890s. Full of strong-headed yet quick-witted characters, With Every Breath was a remarkable book. I appreciated the message of faith immersed subtly within the story of the grace and love of God. The relationship between Kate and Trevor was compelling while the mystery involved was at times riveting. The information I gained about tuberculosis actually made me probe further into the illness. Although we seem to take for granted some of the medical practices and knowledge today, it was definitely not so previously. Thoughtfully and respectfully written while being very interesting!

RATING:
4.5 (out of 5) pennies
